Clic Gallery: Store Front II by James and Karla Murray

Clic Gallery in New York is often presenting exhibitions that I really would like to visit. Too bad I don't live nearby.

James and Karla Murray spent ten years photographing stores from dingy dive bars to cheerful Italian bakeries.

Since they began the project, a huge majority of the stores have shuttered and been pushed out by chains, so these photographs are some of the only records of local institutions that once anchored whole neighborhoods. In addition to just photographing each site, they interviewed owners to learn about the history of the shops and neighborhoods, creating an entire archive of New York history.
