Joining the tintype party

Tintypes, also known as melainotypes and ferrotypes... have always captured my attention. I look for them at yard sales and antique stores. It feels like a piece of history in my hand. Seeing the somber faces of unknown people, with color added to their cheeks, makes me long to know their stories. The pink string tied to the tintype shown above...I want to know who tied it there and why. They are fascinating to me... -Rhonda Prince
