591 Exhibition - Magdalena Dziurlikowska

No dolls, no fairy tales...as a child I loved to just look at things around me...probably making up fantasies about them...trying to make them reveal their secret life. Magdalena shares her thoughts about the lifelines of art in an article published in Expressen (a daily Swedish paper).
Video, essays, art criticism, photograhy...Magdalena finds many ways to express herself. She is like a whirlwind careful not to break the link to the creativity of her childhood.
"I took these photos while travelling in south India. The strong colours of everyday life, the different consumption culture and the patterns created out of ordinary utensils inspired me. My art deals with obsession, the urge to systemize and the pursuit of a personality.
I get inspiration from familiar events and carry them to their extremes. I use video, photography, text and installations to express what it means to create your self-image in today’s society. Habitual and ordinary things result in paradoxes, humour and unreality.
I have a M.A. from Konstfack and a B.A. from Stockholms University. I also write art criticism for daily press and magazines." - Magdalena Dziurlikowska
