WATCH the online exhibition/slideshow
It is a very special moment on this Saturday in December. I am really happy to show you this fine exhibition by Rhonda Boocock. When looking at the pictures I come to think of a slogan from a TV commercial; "think outside the box".

Rhonda is questioning that statement in her amazing series suggesting that there is no box in the first place. We are still allowed to sit down and think freely and let our thoughts wander. We may think of trivial or important matters, what is important is that we take the time to do it.

I asked Rhonda if she would allow me to chose a picture for the poster and she accepted it. I chose the picture with a bird in flight next to a tree. It is a beautiful photo that represents much of Rhonda's work. Just imagine if our thoughts could be like the bird, flying free without any restrictions. And there is no box.
Just some thoughtful spots for us to occupy.

Rhonda is a true artist, both as a photographer and a poet; her use of metaphor and irony is amazing ... it is a gift to the reader or viewer to interpret her work according to their own sensibility. As an obsessive photographer and internet user, i can say that her work is a rare example of talent and vision without pretensions. ...and she has become a lovely friend. :)

As the chairperson of sitting, Rhonda has set a new benchmark. Just kidding... couldn't avoid the pun. I'm a stool.

In seriousness:

These images are somehow both delicate and solid, permanent and empty. Haunting, evocative even of death, in some ways. The empty places we leave behind. The rigid blank shadows of once human form. They are reminiscent of a person's empty shoes once they have passed. Somehow more full than a shoe, but also more empty.

Less personal than a shoe, more universal, but no less empty.

I like the pics a lot.

I thought once about getting a job in an upholstery factory so I could be near chairs but I'm recovered now. Thanks Sean! I'm flattered by your comments...
