591 Exhibition - Ioana Moldovan

The exhibition has ended

Ioana Moldovan is an intelligent, sensitive photographer. Her exhibition makes me think of a quote by Robert Frank:
"Above all, I know that life for a photographer cannot be a matter of indifference. Opinion often consists of a kind of criticism. But criticism can come out of love." The criticism I find in Ioanas work is about the living conditions of the people she has met in these photographs. She wrote to me: "It is about wonderful people living in not so wonderful places."

In many of Ioana's photos I have noticed her seeing and experiencing the world through the eyes of the person she portrays.
There is a sequence that exemplifies this in the exhibition. Watch the boy looking down at a backyard - in that case there is even somebody looking back from below. It is a very advanced way of seeing that Ioana presents to us. - Mr Urbano

A special thanks to Tatiana Bitir who introduced me to Ioana Moldovan.

There's something strong and beautiful in their relationships and spaces... I think we have almost lost it in our modern cities.

Show us more of what you see! Go ahead Ioana!!!

This is realy great photography. In my opinion the best exhibition on 591 so far. Concerned photography at its best, in the spirit of Eugene W Smith, Josef Koudelka and Sebastiao Salgado.

Ioana's work is a great favourite of mine on another site, her pictures are always strong and have plenty to say but they are also beautiful images - it's not easy to achieve all that and I think she does it quite naturally, using instinct to create the superb compositions!
