it was 1968

Last winter I received a treasure from my old friend Arne. He sent me around 700 negatives taken from 1967-1971. I have spent hours thinking about what to do with all this. Arne is a good photographer and above all he has catagolized his negatives and taken very good care of them.

It was tempting to create a "story" as I was myself part of all this. But memories fade and they are not reliable storytellers, neither are photographs. Phil Ochs sings: " Sit by my side, come as close as the air, Share in a memory of gray; Wander in my words, dream about the pictures That I play of changes.

Phil Ochs on Swedish television, black and white, 1968.

So, I decided to skip the "story idea" and present some photos based on the year they were taken. Almost all of the pictures you are about to watch were taken by Arne Persson. He should have the credit. I hope to be able to share a selection of this treasure of images now and then throughout the coming months.

There are places and even people in the archive that I don't remember about, so don't expect me to tell you where the photo above is taken - I simply like it. My initial idea was to do some post-processing of the negatives ( what a stupid idea ) They should be left the way they are with scratches, dust and all.

Who would have thought that pictures from a TV screen could transmit such a sense of time as these above.

will be back with more... Mr Urbano
