It's the third book, after NYC and Mauerreste, I get from Squale, French based photographer. I liked them very much.
They are self published little books, and the quality will surprise you... because the pages are yellow, of the low quality paper used for cheap guides...
But don't be misleaded! It is a well chosen style. Very personal as his fine photographs are.
"Alphabet City is about the small neighborhood located within the East Village in the New York City borough of Manhattan.
The book tries to reflect the traces of human presence, rather than the depiction of human life in a documentary style. It shows the political signs on the walls of the buildings. Sooner or later these signs will tell us in what kind of world we were living."
Squale will welcome interested photographers who will ask for a free copy of his book.
