591 Exhibition - Emese Benko
The exhibition has ended.
You are what you see
Making photography begins with a certain state of mind. It is all about curiosity and the desire to connect.
It may sound selfish but for me photography is about myself to the same extent as it is about the outside world. I look outside because I want to see the stories around me but I also get to see what is inside me. If the stories are not obvious, I make them up, I create them – connecting heart and mind with other people, through the viewfinder.
Whenever you take a picture, you make a statement – not only about what you see but also about yourself.
You are what you see.
- Text and photos @ Emese Benko
Emese is probably not aware of that she is almost quoting Ingmar Bergman who said: "Everything you do is a portrait of yourself" or that her way of looking at photography is very similar to the Swedish maestro Christer Strömholm. He used to say something like this; "the meaning of the image is the image itself". They are wise words.
I am impressed by the photography of Emese Benko - I feel that she is honest about what she is doing and I sense a great passion in her photography. She is special. It is a great pleasure to be able to show her work as a 591 Photography exhibition. - Mr Urbano
