The Local Context

All cities, even smaller communities, have their local neighborhoods. These can be districts like Born in Barcelona, the 18th arrondissement in Paris, Harlem in New York, or Camden in London. Several of these neighborhoods have become famous beyond the overarching city, such as Shibuya in Tokyo or La Boca in Buenos Aires.

For the casual visitor, the local neighborhood might seem rather unimportant, while residents often feel a sense of belonging and even pride in their district. Without generalizing, this is probably quite close to the truth. It's said that there are Parisians who never leave their arrondissement, just one example.

So why not start a small project here at 591 Photography? Send photos and a short text about neighborhoods that have meant or mean a lot to you.
