Silent Watcher - new photobook

Markus Jenemark has created a beautiful photobook called Silent Watcher, available in a signed and limited edition. He asked me to write a few words about the book, which I did.

The end of an era – the beginning of a new one.
Markus Jenemark’s pictures are unsettling; they swirl like leaves in the wind.
What’s going on?
Someone is on the run through the darkness—there seems to be no place to rest.
Then—an aged oak reflected in a puddle.
It is November, late autumn on Earth.

Now, headlights from a distant car flicker into view.
A tree stands out—damaged, yet alive.
A stone human longs to break free from the relentless circle of time.
Above, birds in endless flight.
It is a powerful picture of humanity’s struggle against the mighty forces that deny liberation.
Will the stone human break free?

The forest’s eyes watch silently, the trees listening for axe blows that fell silent long ago
Church spires tremble before our lost spirituality.

In another picture, it is peaceful and beautiful as light breaks through the treetops.
The revolver’s chamber is empty, and the barrel is deformed.
But Markus Jenemark fires sharp shots straight into our hearts.

It hurts sometimes, but something is beginning to awaken from its slumber.
An era ends, another begins.
Jenemark is with us on the journey.
