Beyond the waters
In September 2024, eastern Romania experienced devastating floods that resulted in the deaths of at least four people and caused extensive damage across eight counties. The severe weather, attributed to days of torrential rain, led to the destruction of approximately 5,000 homes and left around 25,000 households without electricity. Galați County was among the hardest-hit areas.
Ioana Mpldovan tells the story in her excellent photographs. It is heartbreaking to watch.
