Oleksandr Ranchukov (1943-2019)

 

Occasionally, I am saddened to learn that a photographer featured on 591Photography has passed away. There are many reasons to remember Oleksandr Ranchukov. He was depicting the decline of the Soviet world in a masterful way. To me he was introduced by Anastasiia Zavalo who was a student of Oleksandr.

The horrors of today with the Russian invasion destroying lives in Ukraine may not be sensed in these pictures but there is one detail. Kiev is the Russian spelling of the city Kyiv that Ranchukov lived and worked in. Oleksandr is his name in Ukranian. May he rest in peace.
