GC - new author on 591 Photography

GC, Gordon Chapman
Born: 1952
Lives in: Stittsville - a small village outside of Ottawa, Canada

Sometime in the late 1950s, I pinched my Sister's Brownie and started taking pictures. I've been doing so pretty much constantly ever since. The cameras that are my friends are mostly vintage film cameras of which the Diana is my favorite, but I seldom leave behind the Rolleicord or the Bronica (which after years I still manage to mess up loading it with film).

While they're not my favorite, digital cameras offer an instant gratification that is somewhat seductive. My preferred subject is whatever is in front of me - I seldom set up a shot but shoot what is in front of me, usually while Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen is buzzing on my cranial ipod.

Confession: large old machines that have ground to a halt are magic subject matter for me.  My favourite photographers are my contemporaries, and if you look at the list of folks on 591, you'll have covered most of my favourites. I've had a few local exhibits here in eastern Ontario (Canada) and you'll find some of my images here on 591. If I have any ambition for my photography, it is to present the viewer with something that they've never quite seen before. Hope you enjoy.
